Geddes
Loudspeakers |
The Geddes line of loudspeakers is the product of years of intensive research into loudspeakers, room acoustics, and
psychoacoustics. This research has led to a rather unique approach to the optimum playback system for a small room. The speakers shown here represent the current state-of-the-art in loudspeaker design using the highly acclaimed waveguides that have been developed by Dr. Geddes over the last thirty years. A white paper is available
that highlights Dr. Geddes approach to systems design. This approach is based on his years of research into the problems of audio playback in small rooms and this paper defines the design principles that go into each of Geddes products.
Dr. Geddes has also added a more comprehensive paper on directivity. The need for this paper was highlighted by the number of questions that are received about directivity - What it is? What's good or bad?
Several reviews of Geddes Loudspeakers are available. These reviews testify to the correctness of Dr. Geddes controversial approach. It should be noted that these aren't select reviews, taken from a variety of various reviews, these are all of the reviews that have been
received. None have been left out. |
The Geddes product line currently consists of five models, three are also available in kit form. This product line is:
 | highlighted by the full Summa |
 | next in the line is the Abbey |
 | the original kit is the Nathan |
 | the newest and the smallest is the Harper |
 | and now a 12" Sub |
|
Which model to buy?
The Summa Cum Laude offers maximum performance but at a considerably higher cost, volume and weight; the Abbey is less expensive, smaller and much lighter, but gives up very little performance; the Nathan is a substantial performer in a very reasonable size, weight, and cost, and finally the Harper is small, lightweight, and
inexpensive and yet maintains much of the superior quality of its heftier siblings.
|
| All of these speakers use premium drivers made in Italy by B&C, not Chinese "wannabes" or knockoffs as found in most products today.
The cost of these drivers is a major portion of the speakers premium price, whereas other brands of speakers almost universally use cheaper Chinese made drivers - and there IS a difference. The crossover parts are all high quality parts, but not mega expensive ones. The cost of Geddes systems is in those parts
that matter most, not those parts that do not. |

An example kit manual is shown here.
A complete kit has most of the necessary parts: drivers, crossover, baffle with waveguide and foam insert, cabinet hardware, instructions - some gasket materials and wire may need to be provided. (Woodworking skills are required for final sanding and filling as necessary on the edges, etc. Power tools would be helpful. A small amount of
soldering is also required.)
Assembled prices come in black, white or red (with other colors sometimes available on request).
